李沢厚らしいマクロな視点からの中国美学の概観。美学と言っても、倫理学とは切り離せない中国的審美感を先秦から近代まで見渡している。先秦の部分などは、資料が乏しいので、類推と憶測が多く、議論も錯綜してわかりにくいが、六朝以降特に宋以降の論述は実に明晰。学術書なので、少々難解で読みにくいが、類書も他にないし、いたしかたない。翻訳者はたいへんな努力をした。感謝之至！
