この本は、何らかのギャンブルをやったことのある人にとってなんとなく感じていたことや誰もが分かっている胴元は儲かるということにたいして、理論的にきちんと説明がなされており、いかなるギャンブラーも一度読むことをお勧めしたい一冊である。特に一番早く負ける賭け方、効率的賭け方などギャンブルを生活の一部とし、破滅せずに楽しむ方法にも触れており、大変参考になる。多くの人が自分の行動と似ている、と納得するのではないだろうか。いち早く負けつづけている状態から抜け出したい人は、高いお金を払って「必勝本」を買うよりも先にこの本をよんでからでも、遅くない。

統計学を学びきちんと考えて見れば当たり前のことが書いてある。
ただその当たり前に考えられないのがギャンブルである。

これはギャンブルというもの、ひいては余暇をいかに過ごすか、自分の人生の中で遊びをどう捉えるのか
について、筆者が現状を憂い書いた本だと思う。

期待値や控除率に関しては細かい数字ではないけれど大まかには知っていたので驚かなかった。
やはり宝くじは悪い商売をしていて、意外にパチンコは地道に頑張っているのかな、とは思ったが。

斬新なのはその視点で、絶対に負ける方法からギャンブラーの心理を捉えるなど、実際コントラクト・ブリッジ
という競技でかなりの腕である筆者の文は説得力があった。ただギャンブルにのめり込んでいる人は
多くが心理的にわかっていてもやめられない状態であり、やはりギャンブルに入る前にこういった本で
冷静に言い聞かせることが必要だろう。


また

「宝くじを買い求める人は夢を買う、というよりは自分の社会的地位を変えたくて宝くじにすがる、
そしてそういった人は低所得者だったり、あまり勉強をしてこなかった人に多い。」

という言葉は衝撃的だった。
確かに彼らは夢を追いかけているが、その夢とは1億円なりを手に入れた姿で、そうなることによって、
現状を劇的に変えられることを夢見ているのだ。


ただその夢の大部分は実際は広告費や公共事業に消えていくことになるが････。

あとがきとその周辺に書いてある遊びへの哲学とギャンブル関係の文に名を載せる学者に対しての思い、
ロジェ・カイヨワの遊びと文明の文章は必読です。

私は見事な破滅型ギャンブラーであったことが分かった。低い倍率の馬を多めに買い、高いものを少なめに買う。みんなやっていることだと思う。しかしこれが一番早く負ける方法である。ボックス買いもＪＲＡにとって最高のお客様である。私はこれで競馬中毒から抜け出すことが出来た。素晴らしい本だ。競馬で本気で儲けようと思ってる人、必読です。

こういう本を読むとギャンブルがアホらしくなる。かと思ったら、自分の賭けかたで確実に負けやすい方法を結構やってしまっているんだなと、知ることができたのは良かった。
