昔から人魚姫の話は好きでした。でも、なにか違う。子供だまし。
そんな感じもしてました。
この人魚姫はそれを感じさせない大人の為のお話。
でも、こんな恋愛してたら・・・
自分の幸せは愛する人が幸せなこと。
胸が苦しくなるけれど、それも幸せなことと感じられる本です。

自分の属する何不自由ない世界から出て初めて目にした異国とその王子。
大人になった私から見ると、人魚姫の王子への恋心は単なる憧れに過ぎないように思えるが、その為に自分の全てを犠牲にしてしまうのが１５歳の少女なのだろう。
人魚姫の恋物語、というよりも成長して行く人間としての姿が印象的だった。
訳者の「いくつもの読み方ができる」との言葉通り、私なりの「人魚姫」の解釈ができた。
美しいイラストレーションが単なる挿絵ではなく、文章と一体になって語りかけてくるよう。心に響く一冊。
