この本の「はじめに」で、『心理学とは人間の心の働きを探ろうとする科学です』と述べていますが、それは「間違い」で科学ではあり　ません！あえて言うなら、科学的方法論を模して形成された「経験則による現象論」です。人間の心、脳の働きにはまだまだ科学は無力です。それは、小宇宙に匹敵するほど難解で、現在の科学的方法論では理解は不可能でしょう！精神医学に物理学的方法論を導入をした　のは、有名な「フロイト」です。ニュートン的世界観で精神、心の研究が始まったのです。さて前置きは此処まで。この本は、一般向け　の啓蒙書です。心理学科の学生が読むべき本では在りませんが、多くの他学科の学生も読んでるでしょう。嘆かわしい事です。物理学者で、「心理学」が科学と思っている人いないでしょう。先ず、心理学の専門家が科学を知らないことが問題ですが・・・。一般読者は以上述べたことを忘れずに・・・表面的かつ浅く（それでも良いのです）・・・心理学の様々な考え方、知っちゃいましょう　！図解は他書と変わりませんしカラー印刷でもありませんけど、目次は以下の様になってます。第1章　心理学の誕生とこれまでの歩み、第2章　脳と知覚のメカニズム、第3章　知能と学習の心理学、第4章　感情や欲求の心理学、第5章　性格を見抜く心理学、第6章「人の一生」をみつめる発達心理学、第7章　男と女をめぐる心理学、第8章　社会と人間関係の心理学、第9章　子どもと家庭の心理学、第10章　本人も知らない深層心理の世界、第11章心の病気と心理学。以上です。この本は初版が2003年なので、現代社会における会社、家庭、心の病にも記述がなされている。この本で一通りの問題となっている事柄、対処の仕方にも触れている。お読みになってがっかりされる事は無き本です。

基礎知識はほとんどない状態でしたが、大まかな概念や流れが理解できました。
入門するための事前準備としての基礎知識を得るには、私としてはとても役立ちました。
聞いたことあるようなエピソードなども理由とともに解説してあるので、身近に感じた。
