五十嵐 敬喜
三菱UFJリサーチ&コンサルティング調査部長。1976年京都大学経済学部卒業、三和銀行入行。調査部でマクロ経済分析を担当し、81~83年経済企画庁に出向、86~89年バンカーストラスト銀行(ニューヨーク)に客員エコノミストとして出向。89年から2001年まで、三和銀行の初代マーケットエコノミストとして行内外向けに経済と相場の分析・予測情報を提供。この間、94~2001年に2度目のニューヨーク駐在。2002年6月からUFJ総合研究所(現三菱UFJリサーチ&コンサルティング)調査部長として内外のマクロ経済分析を統括。テレビ東京系「ワールドビジネスサテライト」のレギュラーコメンテーター、『日本経済新聞』コラム(「十字路」)に定期寄稿するほか、テレビ、新聞、雑誌のインタビュー、寄稿多数(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

表紙は、テレビでもおなじみの著者の写真が前面に出ており、書店で購入するかどうか迷ったが、ばじめにを立ち読みして、思い切って購入した。
テレビ東京のＷＢＳでの語り口と同様、喫茶店で雑談しているかのような柔らかい語り口で、経済の現代的問題をときほぐしていく。わかりやすい表現をしようとして、却って、わかりにくくなってしまった箇所もあるが、全般的に理解しやすい内容となっている。
各章のお題が、各々、一般ビジネスマンが普段感じているが、なかなか自身で納得のいく理解を得られていないようなものなので、読後、お得感があった。

日経新聞を購読している方位の知識がある人にお勧めの本。経済用語の内容について理解がある人はこの本の内容を良く理解できます。世界経済のマクロな動きなどについて特にアメリカ経済の内容についての考え方は今後の世界経済への影響を考える際に非常に示唆に富んでいると思います。この本を読んで為替の動きや新興国の経済発展の方向性について自分なりの視点を持つことができれば、今後の投資活動の参考に充分なりえると思います。自分はしばらく立ち読みしてその後別な本を見てやはり良く読んだ方がいいと思い購入してしまいました。
