何か考えさせられるわけでもなく、ただ単純に面白い。
王様、お姫様、権力をねらう悪、剣と勇気、叶わぬ恋…と冒険物のエッセンスが詰まった作品。

　ヨーロッパの架空の国ルリタニアを舞台にした、恐ろしいほどの予定調和で終わるお話だが、私は大好きだ。登場人物たちは実に自分に正直で、何も考えずに気の向くままに行動する。もちろん大真面目にだが、そこが笑えるのだ。大体、たかが10人にも満たない人数でどうにかできちゃう王国っていうのがあり得ないわけだから、純粋な喜劇として楽しむのが正解だと思う。

後日談のヘンツオ伯爵も一緒に読めてお買い得な感じである。まあ話はいつものとおりで、三銃士とかアーサー王とか騎士道もので安心して楽しめる。話としてみれば、最初の“大使館武官の話”のフリと最後のオチは別になくてもいいし、全般的に悪役にもう少しキレがあってほしいものである、カッコだけじゃなくて（笑）　それにしても、人が何かをする動機づけとして自分の利益だけじゃない好例があるし、二人が拳銃を向け合っているとき先に下ろすのはどちらからか？　というあたりは楽しめる。

あとは勝手な法則だけど、物語において主要な場所＋人物＝１０が、読みすすめていくのに限界に近い数字という意識をもっているのだが、この作品では場所３＋人物７＝１０くらいのバランスが人の描き方の上手さとよくマッチングしていると思う。発言における性格づけが上手くて、後半になるとこの場面ではこう言うだろうなという発言がきちんと出てくるので、おもわずにやりとさせられてしまう。
