5.0 out of 5 stars 精緻きわまる。スゴいよ, 2003/12/2
分厚い文庫本だけれども半分が訳注ないし解説という、ある意味ブッ飛んだ書物。それだから、キルケゴールの「絶望」や「実存」といった概念がどこまでも軽薄な意味で捉えられる方向に向う現今我々を取り巻く状況下にあって、本書は甚だ心強い。訳語にかんする考証も精緻を極める。訳者桝田教授は、大谷愛人（研究者。「青年時代の研究」「著作活動の研究」の著書を合計すると6000ページを軽く超える。原稿用紙に換算するとしたら……）教授によって「デンマーク語原典に直接当たるのでなかったら、独訳英訳などよりも桝田訳日本語版で読んだ方がよい」というような太鼓判を貰っておられる。値は張るが、本文を一度読めば読了というたぐいの書物ではないので、どうせ買うならばペナペナの他社版よりもこちらを手にして戴きたい。

購入して読みきるまで数ヶ月かかりました。それは、一つの誤解があったからです。叙述の開始において著者は「人間は精神である…精神とは自己である…自己とは一つの関係、その関係それ自身に関係する関係である。」という有名な規定を与えていますが、この自己の解剖の部分―始めの7ページくらい―がさっぱり理解出来ず、この難解な叙述が最後まで続くのか、と思って読書を中断していました。確かにこの部分を納得するのには時間がかかりましたが、それ以降はすらすら読み進めることが出来ました。本書の峠は、出だしにあります。また、中公クラシックスから桝田訳「死にいたる病・現代の批判」が出ていますが、注釈の分量が本書より大分少ないです。ただし岩波文庫版「現代の批判」は、桝田訳ですが現在品切れのようです。購入時参考にしてください。

　ここで「絶望」と呼ばれているものを扱った書物は数多い。が、それをここまで
精緻に分析し表現した文章を私は知らない。一見堅い「論理と理屈」が書かれてい
るように思われるかも知れないが、内容は非常に人間的で具体的なものである。こ
の文章を難解だとか矛盾していると受け取る人は、表面的な語句にとらわれて内面
的な部分を読みとれなかったのであろう。例えば、ドストエフスキーの「罪と罰」
を読んだ人なら、この両者の扱っているテーマの類似性に驚くのではないだろうか。
　文章のセンスも優れていて「おっ」と思わせるような洒落た表現が随所に見られ
る。その中には「聖書」や「ギリシャ神話」などを知っていなければ分からない部
分も多くあるが、幸いにこの訳では、詳細な注が補足されている。同書の訳として
は最も優れたものとしてお勧めできる。
