水木しげるの戦争モノによく見られる、
作者の感情が介入しない視点によって本書は描かれている。
芸術家の夢破れた浮浪者が兵士となり、政治に参加し、
一国の独裁者へと駆け上がり、ドイツ第三帝国として膨張し、
その完全なる崩壊までが描かれているわけだが、
水木はヒトラーが善であるとか、悪であるとか一切の批評を加えない。
物語に必要な事実だけを組み上げてゆき、ひたすら淡々と物語を進めるのである。
そこが戦争モノを書くときの水木の凄みであり、
痛烈な威力を持って我々に迫ってくる劇画の魅力だと思う。
水木漫画独特の滑稽さもしっかり生きているから、楽しめる作品でもある。
独裁者ヒトラーのスケッチとして、素晴らしく上出来だといえるし、
一つの完成された人間像の提示を本書は約束してくれる。
水木劇画のなかでも出色ではないだろうか。
少なくとも私はそう思っている。

ナチスドイツ総統・アドルフ=ヒトラー、本作品は余りにも有名なこの独裁者の生涯を描いたものです。
物語は1908年、オーストリアのウィーンで下宿生活をしている19歳の美術学校浪人生ヒトラー青年の元へ、親友のクビツェックが訪ねて来るところから始まります。
そして物語はその後の浮浪者生活、第１次大戦での軍隊生活、ドイツ労働者党入党、国家社会主義ドイツ労働者党（ナチス）の成立、政権掌握、第二次大戦勃発と続き、1945年４月30日、ベルリンの総統官邸地下壕における彼の自殺で幕を閉じます。
水木しげる氏の独特なタッチにより、時には面白おかしく描かれていくヒトラーの生涯、そこには批判も、もちろん賞賛も無くただ淡々と事実が描かれています。そのため、歴史モノにありがちな難解さが無いので読み易く、逆に読んでいると考えさせられる事が多い作品です。
ヒトラーという人物に少しでも興味がある方は、是非読んでいただきたい１冊です。

本作はヒトラーが軍隊生活から党活動へて合法的に権力をにぎり、ドイツを戦争にかりた
て、最終的に自らの命を絶つまでを描いています。

この作品は全編シリアスな調子で描かれています。『劇画　近藤勇』のときに見られたよ
うな、筆者独自の人物観が本作にはありません。ヒットラーのばあい身近な過去なので、
創作の余地を挟み込むわけにはいかなかったのでしょうか。いずれにせよ水木流をあまり
感じさせないという意味で異色な作品です。
