ボブ・トマス著『ウォルトディズニー』（玉置悦子・能登路雅子訳）を愛読書にされている方にとっては、ページをめくる毎に新たな発見がある。その時代の出版物にはすべてディズニー社の強力な検閲があり、不適当と判断された部分には、容赦なく削除もしくは異なった表現が求められていたのだ。本書は、その内容にある通り、ディズニーの膨大な資料を閲覧して書かれたにもかかわらず、一切の検閲を受けていない。オブラートに包まれ、もやがかかっていた部分が、白日の下に曝されたのだ。
わたし自身、ウォルトディズニーの信奉者ではあるが、素晴しい部分のみを見てきたつもりはない。本書によって【人間ウォルトディズニー】の部分を更に深耕し理解できたことは、最大の喜びとなった。ぜひ【ロイ版】も出してもらいたい。

詳細な調査に基づいた完璧な記録

厳格な父の呪縛から離れようともがいていた少年時代と
演劇と作画にのめり込んでいった青年時代を経て
ウォルト・ディズニーは自分の夢を確立する
「誰にも束縛されず、自分のための理想郷を作る」
という果てしない夢を

失敗の連続、絶え間ない製作資金との戦い
仲間との確執、ライバルや戦争．．
困難に思える障害を、自分の存在意義をかけて
一つ一つ打破していく


特に圧巻だったのは、映画「白雪姫」の製作過程（P222〜P257）
完璧主義者としてのウォルトの「狂気」に圧倒される

ウォルトが各シーン、各台詞、各言葉を細かくチェックし、
プロジェクトから１年たっても、脚本が完成するどころか、
（７人の）こびとの名前も決定されなかった（P228）

ウォルトはスタッフ全員を前にして身振り手振りを交え、
声色を使ってストーリーを朗読した。それは時に３時間に
及ぶこともあった（P239）


ディズニー映画の登場人物が、なぜ生き生きとしているのか
ディズニーランドが、なぜユートピアとして感じられるのか
理屈でなく「狂気」として、その理由を感じた

子供のような考えと生き方では、ビジネスでの成功はないということ。
ビジネスで成功していくには、誰も信じないこと。
純粋に夢だけ見ていては、だめだということ。
しかし、目標を持って、一歩でもそれに近づく努力を忘れてはいけない。
ビジネスには、表と裏の顔があるのは、当たり前なのです。
でも、ウォルトディズニーは偉大です。
