僕が吉本隆明という人を知ったのは、「sight」という雑誌の手塚治虫特集で渋谷陽一氏が自分が最も影響を受けた3人の中の一人として挙げていたからです。（他の二人はbeetlesと手塚治虫でした）それまでは、どんな人か全く知らなかったし、写真を見る限りでは、普通の老人という感じでした。その後に、この人が「よしもとばなな」のお父さんだと知りました。この本の中で著者が言っているように、不景気な時代に本を読んでもらうためには万人に読めるようにわかりやすく、やさしい文体で書いてあるので、頭の悪い僕でも、なんとか読めました。多感な年代に戦争を経験した人なので、三島由紀夫がなぜ割腹したかがなんとなくわかりました。ちょっと、もの足りなかったのは女性問題の章で、男の人が、これを扱うのは、ちょっと難しいのかな。とも思いました。（かといって女性が女性問題を扱うとヒステリックになることが多いけれど）全部の内容を全て自分のものにすることはできないと思うけれど、これからの人生で役に立つであろうエッセンスがつまっている、それも面白い本であると思います。
