短編です。知る人ぞ知る、ロバート エイクマン、一応怪奇小説家となっていますが、タイトルの「奥の部屋」などは道に迷った主人公が行き着いたのは自分が昔持っていたドールハウスそっくりであった・・・しかも中にいる住人もドールハウスの住人とそっくり・・・。そのドールハウスには一人だけ後ろ向きで髪をふりみだした女性の人形があった・・・。後、「髪を束ねて」など摩訶不思議な表現しようのない恐怖を描いたら右に出るものはいません。特にすれっからしの読者におすすめです。この本の神髄は英国の映像作家ブラザーズ・クエイに通じるところがかなりあり、クエイ作品をこよなく愛する全ての人にお勧めします。
