表紙に目を惹かれて思わず買ってしまったのですが、最初から最後まで熱読することが出来ました。
側室の子であるがために様々な武将の元をたらい回しにされた景虎。そんな彼の心情は読んでいてとても辛いです。
しかし気が付くとどうしようもなく感情移入し、頑張れと応援してしまう自分がいました。
また謙信死後、景勝（この本では見事な悪役です；苦笑）と戦うことになりますが、結末がわかっていても彼に勝って欲しいと思うのもまた即席景虎ファンの人情。
義父・謙信の云う「義」を貫こうと苦悩する彼の姿は涙ものです。
この本のお陰様で、今では景虎は三指に入る程大好きな武将になりました！！
戦国好きな方も、そうでない方も是非読んでみてください。

上杉三郎景虎といえば謙信亡きあと景勝と家督を争った北条氏康の子供という程度しか知識が無かったが今回更に生い立ちから人質生活まで詳しく書かれているためかなり中身の濃い小説になっていると思います。
ここまで詳しく小説として取り上げられたことは今まで無かったと思い
ます。改めて上杉三郎景虎という人物を知ることが出来ました。戦国武将を知る上で絶対読んでおきたい一冊です。

謙信の死後、上杉景勝と家督を争った三郎景虎を主役に取り上げた異色作。
桑原水菜氏の『炎の蜃気楼』において大ブームを巻き起こした三郎景虎を、等身大の姿で描こうとした意欲作である。近衛氏は徹底的に資料を渉猟し、三郎の実像に迫ろうとしたのであろう。自ら三郎のキャラを創ろうという小手先の技巧に走らず、「三郎とはいかなる人物であったのか」という真摯な姿勢で取り組んだ結果が、みずみずしいキャラと哀切感のあるドラマを生み出すことに成功した。史実をベースにした部分のスピード感とドラマ部分のしっとり感が微妙な緩急を生み、独自の小説世界を築き上げている。難点を言わせてもらえば、越後国内に照準を合わせた結果、北条家など外部勢力の描写が疎かになり、スケール感が生み出せなかったことか。
