カナダの近代的なサーカスの事やサーカスの学校の事なども書かれている本で、おもしろくて興味深く読めました。実際に関わっている人達の声が本の中のあちらこちらに出てきて、エピローグにはインタビューで色々な方にあれやこれやとたずねる著者の方に”どうしてアートサーカスに魅かれるのか”を逆にある人から質問をされたことまでが書かれてあり、楽しく読めました。
この本は読みやすいと思いました。おそらくサーカスを見たことがない方でもおもしろく読めると私は思いました。

うわさには聞いていたけど、現代のサーカスはすごい！オリンピックの元メダリストなどをどんどんスカウトして、彼らにしても厳しい競争に勝ち抜かないと張れの舞台には出場できないのだ。サーカスについて知らなかったことばかりだったのでとても興味深く読めた。また、この本は、シルク・ドゥ・ソレイユなどのサーカスカンパニーを何年にも渡って詳細に取材しているので、サーカス団員たちの成長ぶりも見ることができ、がんばれって応援したくなった。是非本物のサーカスを見に行こうと思う。知識と楽しみが増えた。

『白い扉の向こう側 ようこそシルク・ドゥ・ソレイユへ 』よりは、シルク・ドゥ・ソレイユファンも満足する内容であろうが、舞台裏全体よりは日本人出演者や演出者など“人”に焦点を当てて書かれており、まだまだ食い足りないであろう。
　後半半分は、他のサーカス団やサーカス学校の紹介がなされており、旧態依然としたサーカスでなく、新しいジャンルとしての“アートサーカス”に興味がある向きには楽しめると思う。

　ともあれ「モントリオールをサーカス芸術の首都に」と、文化に惜しげもなく資金援助をするケベック州の英断に羨ましささえ感じて本を閉じた。
