文章は記述が平易で読みやすく、法律書にすればさくさくと読み進めることができるが、重要判例や、論点のところでも簡素な記述のため、意識せずに読み流してしまうこともありそう。
そのこともあって、問題になっているのかどうか、問題となるとしてもなぜ問題となるのかがわかりづらいことや、結論はわかっても理由付けがないなど、この本を基本書として万全というわけにはいかないと思う。
百選はもちろんのこと、辞書代わりにでももう少し厚い基本書と併用をお勧めする。

昔の人はこういう本を読んで民法をさっくり理解できたんだろうか、
と思う。もうしそうなら、昔の人はみんなそうとうに頭がよかった。
というか本に読みなれていたのかもしれない。

最近では親切な本が多く、物権変動なんか図入りで念入りに
解説してくれる。そういったことを考えると、本書は相当に
不親切ということになる。図は載ってないし、文章は何だか
論文っぽくて理解しにくい。

かの我妻先生が書いた文章にしてはそうとう平易なのかもしれないが、
現代の学生にとっては、そうとう格調高い文章だと思う。
初学者が本書に挑戦するならばそうとうな覚悟が要りますよ。

業界で言う「ダットサン」というやつ。通称だったが、出版社が変わってまえがきにも書かれるようになった。


いやあバリバリの通説やね。日本民法学がいかに我妻先生を淵源としているかがわかる。そしてその通説をのりこえんとしてがんばってるのが今の民法学者たちってか。


なにげに共著者によって改訂されてて平成１５年辺りの判例まで載ってる。
