エロイカの本シリーズは、任務遂行のために部下を叱責し各国の諜報部員と渡り合い伯爵と絡みあいながらストーリーが進んで行くというコメディタッチの漫画である。キャラクター一人一人が舞台演劇のように役回りをこなしていくという感じで、少佐も任務一筋の軍人というキャラが前面に出ている。だが、この「摩弾の射手」では、定番のキャラは登場せず任務において人命を尊ぶ少佐の真摯な姿が描かれ心打たれる。周囲に評される任務一筋のトーヘンボクという印象はここにはない。「Z」シリーズでも時たま見せる、少佐の人間らしさに触れるには最高の作品だと思います。

本編「エロイカより愛を込めて」とは違い、少佐自ら出張って一人で重要人物の護衛に当たる。おちゃらけやギャグの要素はなく、終始ＫＧＢの天才スナイパーとの緊迫した神経戦が続く。
　特にスナイパーと少佐の最初の接触のシーンは息詰まるほどの緊張だが、見事に鮮やかなほどかっこいい。（伯爵におちょくられている少佐とは別人です）

　ただ、この戦いに巻き込まれたともいうべき、「誰も信じないこと」を信条に身を守ってきた、そしてそのために滅んだスパイの末路が哀れ。

　ひとを欺くことが任務のスパイ。大どんでん返しに胸がすく思い。

作品全体に流れる静謐さ、ストイックな雰囲気は、かの名作「ジャッカルの日」を彷彿とさせます。
たかが少女漫画と侮る無かれ。半端なスパイ小説なんか及びもつかない質の高さです。
