最近行った外国の書店では依然ベストセラーのこの本も日本の書店ではめっきり見かけなくなってしまいました。何年も読み継がれるべき素晴らしい本だと思いますが日本人にとってはとても不幸な状態です。この本のタイトルが原因でこの本を本当に必要としている人たちが手に取らないのではと思われ残念です。ぜひとも徳間書店さんにはタイトルを原題のパワー・オブ・ナウに戻して頂き重要な箇所が削除されていない完全訳で再出版を検討して頂ければと思います。それほど人類にとってとても重要な本だと思います。

和訳の際にタイトルを直訳するのでなく、インパクトのある題名にすることが大事なのはわかるが、これはひどい。
「ソウルメイトを得たら、あのセミナーを受けたら、何かいいテクニックにさえ出会えたら、〜さえあれば、そのときこそ自分は幸福になれるだろう」というような、自分の外に答えを探すという姿勢こそがさとりにとっての「基本的なエラー、大きな障害」である。条件付けをして「いま、ここ」以外の場所に求めてはならない、と、再三本書の中で述べられている。
なのにこのタイトル「さとりをひらくと」は、そのエラーそのものではないか。
翻訳自体は読みやすくていいし内容も素晴らしいのに、実にもったいない。
また、飯田氏の判断で内容を削っているそうだが、そんなに不適切な部分があったのか疑問に思う。もしそうならアメリカで出版される際に削除されているだろう。飯田氏にはそれなりの思想と判断があってのことだと思うが、本書を購入する読者は「飯田氏の世界」ではなく「エックハルト・トールの世界」を味わいたいのだから、きつい言い方かもしれないが大きなお世話である。
徳間でも他社でもいいから、タイトルを適切なものにして完訳版を出していただきたい。

本書で主張していることは，非常にシンプルだ。簡単に言うと，次のようになる。

　　私たちは「今」にしか生きることができない。「過去」や
　　「未来」に住んでいる訳ではない。そうであれば「今」を
　　最重要視し，生きていこう。そうすれば「失敗した過去」
　　や「失敗するかも知れないという未来に対する恐怖」から
　　開放され，真に自由な心で生きることができる。

オリジナルのタイトルは The Power of NOW であり，もう少し直訳的に言うならば「今に在ることの力」となるだろう。私は年間100冊近いの本を読むのだが，これほど素晴らしい本に出会うことは，めったにない。仕事や人間関係で行き詰まって，どうしようもない状態に陥っているような方に，是非，読んでいただきたい。
