　主人公は元奉行所勤めの侍、それも剣の立つ男。
　でありながら、上司の不始末をかぶって町人にくだり、損料屋を営んでいる。損料屋は鍋釜や炬燵を貸して小銭を稼ぐような職だが、それはあくまで表の顔。その裏の顔は―

　主人公は大江戸のマネーゲームとも言える札差の間の事件を解決していくが、彼はあくまで知恵、鋭い先読みで全てを解決していく。本当は剣も相当に遣う男が、あえてそれをしない。剣を振るって悪人をばったばったと切り伏せるカタルシスは無いが、それ以上に男の渋さ、鋭さが光る、燻し銀の解決譚。オススメです。

とにかく喜八郎はかっこいい！こんな男性が現代にいてくれたら・・・
話のテンポや展開が面白くて夢中になって読みました。喜八郎の周囲の人たちも味があり、人情味豊なストーリー。
読む価値絶対あります！

人に薦められて読みました。学生時代、古文と歴史の時間があまり好きでなかったので、読み始めは江戸時代の時代設定とちょっと難しい熟語の読み方が億劫でした。しかし、読み始めると筆者独特の人物描写が鮮明で、登場人物の装束も想像してしまう始末。読むのが遅い私ですが、２日で読み終えました。「これは絶対NHKの金曜時代劇でドラマ化して欲しい！」と思う次第です。山本氏の「あかね空」はまだ読んでいないので、これから読んでみようと思います。
