1943年シカゴ郊外に生れる。65年イェール大学卒業。海軍、地方紙記者を経て71年ワシントン・ポスト社に入社。ウォーターゲート事件の時は市報部で活躍していた

バーンスタイン,カール
1944年ワシントンDC生れ。16歳でワシントン・スター紙のコピーボーイとして入社。66年ワシントン・ポスト社に入社して首都部記者となった

常盤 新平
1931(昭和6)年、岩手県に生れる。早大卒。1987(昭和62)年、「遠いアメリカ」で直木賞を受賞(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

4.0 out of 5 stars 名政治ドキュメント, 2008/7/2
余りにも有名な名政治ドキュメントです。当時この本が発表された時にはこの本の内容がすごくセンセーショナルであったことは間違いないと思います。
今現在も些細な事だと思われた事件が世界一の権力者を追い込んでいくので、爽快です。特に行き詰った後の後半、どんどんと相手側サイドから崩されていって崩壊していく過程はわくわくしてきます。
しかしいかんせん古く感じてしまいました。すでにディープ・スロートが誰だか分かっていますし、この本以外にもウッドワードの「ディープスロート」を読んでしまっているため、今更またこの本を読む必要があったのかと一瞬感じてしまいました。
また出てくる登場人物も余りにも複数なので、誰が誰か分からなくなり、途中何度か戻って確かめてしまいました。
以上難点もあるものの、ジャーナリズムにとって大変重要な作品で、丁寧に書かれていますので、良書であるのは間違いありません
