本文の父親の語りを通して、誰かの息づかいが聞こえるような錯覚すら持った本だった。内容はアダルトチルドレンの自己との寡黙な闘いだと感じられた。また「神様のいない日本シリーズ」は、自己満足に酔いしれている人間が書いた小説を読まされたときに感じる不快感といったものはない。作者自身がそれを意識していると思う。

面白かったです。
同著者の「図書準備室」の手法がさらに洗練された作品。ずっと「逃避」をテーマとして書いてきた作者ですが、今回はその逃避した自分を世代という流れの中で振り返るという進化系。作者の作る世界が確実に広がってきている感じがしました。
もちろん「図書準備室」にもあったような思わずほくそえんでしまう主人公の独白や、この作者ならではの「信頼できない語り手」のその信頼できなさっぷりも、今回の作品でもとても楽しめます。なのにそういった「斜に構えた読み方」をしない読者にも受け入れられそうなバランスも取れていたりして。
次回作も楽しみです。

豚殺しの祖父と自分の名前が原因で、上級生と喧嘩した息子と父とのドア越しの物語、とあったので、ひょっとして、これ人権小説？と思ったが勘違いだった。豚というのは鈍重で貪欲な象徴として、たびたび小説には出てくるが、ここではどうだろう。共に暮らすという意味では例えば貧困という象徴があるし、また絶望、あるいは不条理、という側面もある。又吉栄喜の”豚の報い”などはまさに不条理の象徴であるし、すこし趣向が違うが、宮崎駿の”千と千尋”も絶望、あるいは諧謔の象徴といってもいい。
とにかく、思わせぶりはこの”豚”だ。どうして、殴り殺す意味があったのだろう？いや、そうなると、この小説の設定自体が揺らぐことになるが、なんかこのあたり、甘いような恣意的な感じがする。
この小説を、ものの道理に合わない純文学とすれば、まさに芥川賞級だと思うのだが、そのくせ、西鉄と西武の奇跡だの、演劇だの、日常が過ぎている。ならばそのアンチテーゼとしての”豚”なのか、といえばそうでもない。
しかしながら、この作家は上手い。豚、バット、手紙、と小気味よい小道具の配置と、極めつけは日本シリーズと”ゴドー”だ。この上手さが、息子の部屋の前で、延々と語り続ける不自然さを、きれいに払拭してくれる。
