新訳ということで約２０年ぶりに読みました。字も大きくなり、非常に読みやすくなっています。また、超有名作品であるが故に、そのトリックについて論争も巻きおこっています。しかし推理小説ファンならこれは読んでおくべきです。似たようなトリックが氾濫する中、この推理小説こそがその旗手なのです。何の予備知識も無く読んで騙されてああ面白かったというのが最高の読み方だと思います。この作品の評価が低い方は、似たような小説を先に読んでしまっていたか、もしくは推理小説の定義が狭い方ではないでしょうか。少なくとも、後世に多大な影響を与えた小説であることは間違いありません。

5.0 out of 5 stars アガサの作品の中でも最高傑作だと思う, 2008/5/25
1926年に書かれたものだが、とても読みやすかった。また27の章に分かれていて章ごとがの展開がわかりやすく読みやすい。ＡＢＣ殺人事件やオリエント急行殺人事件と比べても読みやすかったし面白かった。とにかく、誰が犯人なのか25章までわからない。私は真犯人を当てることができなかった。100人の読者中当てることができるのは3人くらいしかいないのでは？と思った。あまりにも意表を突くこの結末は、前後のアガサの小説にもなく、最初で最後の展開と言えるだろう。巻頭に「殺人事件が起き、検死があり、登場人物が次から次に疑われる、本格推理小説が好きな、パンキーに捧げる」とアガサが書いている内容どおりだった。まさに「登場人物が次から次に疑われる」アガサの素晴らしい最高傑作だと思う。

　この作品は3回読みました。犯人を知っていると、犯人を知らないときとは別の楽しみ方ができます。
　この作品には「フェアかアンフェアか」という論争が絶えないようですが、僕はフェアだと思います。
