田舎のかつての名家出身のあぐりでしたが、父親、姉妹２人を早くに亡くして結果的には金銭面で苦労させないために母親から結婚話を持ってこられ、１５歳で嫁ぎます。その後、フラフラする夫に振り回せれ東京に。小説家希望でも芽の出ない夫を背に自分は子供を預け当時は珍しい働く婦人へと。夫も途中有名にはなるもののあっけなく若くして亡くなってしまいます。残された３人の子供を育てながらも、仕事を切り盛りし全国区の美容室まで作り上げるあぐりのバイタリティーには驚かされてばかりでした。中にはコメディー要素も多く、人間関係にも笑わされる場面もたくさん。そして、数々の面白いエピソードもふんだんにあり最後まで飽きませんでした。
