クラウゼヴィッツ,カール・フォン
1780‐1831。マグデブルク近郊に生まれる。12歳で陸軍入隊。ベルリン士官学校ではシャルンホルストの薫陶を受ける。卒業後、プロイセン皇太子の副官に任官。1806年のイエナの会戦ではナポレオン軍に破れ、捕虜となる。解放後、帰国するもプロイセン国王と離反し下野、ロシアに投ず。1813年祖国に復帰し、ワーテルローの会戦に参謀長として参戦、ナポレオン軍撃破に勲功を上げる

清水 多吉
立正大学文学部哲学科教授。1933年(昭和8年)会津若松生まれ。東京大学文学部哲学科卒(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

「戦争全体は人間の弱点を前提とし、この弱点に目をつける」。「正しい方針を立てる人のみが奇襲できる」。まるでグリン・スパン元FRB議長の演説のように難解で含蓄のある表現が多いのは事実。誰でも読み進められるような本ではない。ただし、説明は冷徹なくらい論理的で、それゆえ回りくどく長くなっているだけである。よって、その点に慣れてばくれば、むしろわかりやすくさえ感じる。

ただ、古くから世界の軍関係者に愛読されてきた名著であるものの、大量破壊兵器やハイテク兵器が幅を利かせる時代の常識からすると、率直に述べて、もう古い。

一方、「合理的目的が附加されれば大胆さは容易に発揮される」というような指摘は戦争だけに限ったものではなく、むしろビジネスマンにとって参考になる部分が多いかもしれない。実際、「上級軍人に必要な知識は、特殊な才能による考察、つまり研究と熟慮によってのみ獲得することができる」「批判とは理論的真理を実際の事件に応用すること」というような点や、あるいは、戦略と戦術の定義と位置づけと意義などは、けして軍事に限ったことではない。

簡単な本ではないが、読み解きながら時々姿勢を正したくなるような著作である。

　極めて回りくどい表現のオンパレードで、上下巻を通読するのは、正直言ってしんどかった。まどろっこしい表現は、原典のせいか翻訳のせいかはわからないが（おそらく前者か…？）、通読するにはそれなりの覚悟は必要。だが、研究者でなければ、通読の必要も高いとは思わない。

　しかし、通読の必要性はともかく、第１部から第３部と、下巻に収められている第８部は読み応えがある。現代のビジネスパーソンにも、多くの示唆を与えてくれると感じる。

　マーケティングの世界は、（ライバル企業との）戦争の時代から、（顧客との）恋愛の時代へと、変遷したというのが、私自身の時代認識ではあるが、しかし、この「戦争論」は、ビジネスパーソンにも、有益な一冊（二冊？）になると考える。

クラウゼヴィッツは戦争を客観的に捉えており、政治的な解決手段のひとつとして
考えないといけないという視点は国によっては今の世の中でも当てはまるところもある。
ただ、戦争自体の悲劇を考えると他の平和的な手段も考え出す必要はあるが、戦争について
思いを巡らせるには良書であると思う。
