最近「金融工学」本が巷に多く出回っているが、「難しい理論を学ぶ前に、まずそれが何であるかを知りたい」という読者にぴったりの本。 難しいことを丁寧にわかりやすく説明しており、著者が最上級の学者であることがわかる。 ふんだんに盛り込まれた、米国と日本の「学界ネタ」のエピソードも興味深い。 モダン・ポートフォリオ理論に基づいた投資家がどのように国際資本市場で投資行動を行っているのか、といった分析に携わる方、必見。

　本書の評価は、読者の知識レベルと、本書に何を求めるかによって分かれるだろう。
　CAPMが何であるかおよそ理解しているレベルの読者にとっては、本書は良質なエッセイである。

　しかし、金融工学をこれから勉強しようとしている読者に、本書が理解できるかどうかはやや疑問である。はしがきに「金融工学のエッセンスをなるべく数式に頼らず紹介することにした」とあるが、評者の経験から言えば、金融工学的な感覚は、自ら数式を展開するなどしなければ、なかなか身に付かないものである。

　そのような意味で、本書は初心者には難解、中級者には知っていることは分かるが知らないことは分からないという、この類の書物の典型的な短所から免れていない。
　とはいえ、エッセイと割り切ってしまえば、読んで楽しい書物である。

著者の今野浩氏は、「金融工学とはなにか」を表わした刈屋武昭氏が初代会長を務めたジャフィーの２代目会長。「金融工学とはなにか」より数式が多いが、なにも恐れることはありません。最新の金融工学のエッセンスに触れるには格好の本と言えます。

是非、「金融工学とはなにか」、「金融工学、こんなに面白い」と連続して読んでいただきたい本です。磐石と信じていた日本社会の構造、特に金融がいかに規制下で安穏として存在していたか。危うい日本で自分の資産を守るにはどうするか。これらの本を読んで自分たちのレベルを高めるほかはないと思います。はい。
