人気作家及び人気作家候補による短編集。

伊坂幸太郎「首折り男の周辺」
近藤史恵「プロトンの中の孤独」
有川浩「ストーリー・セラー」
米澤穂信「玉野五十鈴の誉れ」
佐藤友哉「３３３のテッペン」
道尾秀介「光の箱」
本多孝好「ここじゃない場所」

伊坂幸太郎、近藤史恵、道尾秀介以外は初対面でしたが、本屋で見たこと
ある名前ばかり。期待は大きかったのですが、結果は、３勝3敗２分くらい
かな。関連する長編があるサイドストーリーなのか、本書だけでは物語の
背景がわかりづらい作品もあります。

僕が一番楽しめたのが、「玉野五十鈴の誉れ」。時代背景も戦前？なのか、
架空なのかも判らない寓話的な世界ですが、なんか透明感のある物語。わ
ずか60ページで、起承転結があり、また、最後の話の膨らみ方も良い。読後
すぐに、この著者の他の作品を探しに本屋に行きました。

短編だから空いた時間にも読みやすいし、新しい作家開拓にも適した本です。

一定のテーマを設けることはせず、現在の日本文学を代表する7人の作家が、それぞれのテーマで書いた作品を提供しています。
そのため、ありがちなアンソロジー物のような「全体としての統一感」はありませんが、色々なタイプの作品が楽しめるというメリットはあります。
ただし、作品によって好みや評価が分かれるとは思います。

個人的には、伊坂幸太郎・有川浩・本多孝好など、馴染みの作家と並んで、読んでみたいと思っていた道尾秀介・米澤穂信の作品が入っていたので、「新規開拓の入門書」としての役割は大きかった。
期待どおり、道尾さんの「光の箱」は面白かったです。
他の作品も読んでみようと思いました。
Story Seller 2も楽しみです！

伊坂幸太郎、近藤史恵、道尾秀介、本多孝好ら当代気鋭の７人の作品が集まったアンソロジー。

伊坂幸太郎の「首折り男の周辺」・・異なる３つのエピソードがひとつにまとまる、ひねりのきいた伊坂ワールドが味わえる作品。
近藤史恵の「プロトンの中の孤独」・・名作『サクリファイス』の余韻にひたれる一編。
有川浩の「ストーリー・セラー」・・本作品集の中で私が最も心を動かされた秀作。妻がかつて症例のない重病に罹った夫婦のヒストリーを感動的に描いている。
米澤穂信の「玉野五十鈴の誉れ」・・今からかなり時代の古い、旧家の跡継ぎに生まれた女性の、使用人との心のふれあいを切々と描いた儚ささえ感じられる一編。
佐藤友哉の「３３３のテッペン」・・東京タワーの塔頂部で起きた不可解な連続殺人がテーマのミステリー。主人公の‘オレ’も何気に怪しくて、冒頭から物語に引き込まれてしまった。
道尾秀介の「光の箱」・・同窓会に参加した男の少年時代のほろ苦い恋愛の思い出と、その相手の女性を、ノスタルジックに描き、さらに読者に時間差攻撃を仕掛けている小説。
本多孝好の「ここじゃない場所」・・同級生の男子にテレポーテーションの超能力が・・・。その秘密を探る‘私’の危なっかしい冒険譚。

本書収録の作品は、いずれも短編というより中編といったボリュームで、しかもこれだけの人気作家たちがそろっているとなれば、読まずにはいられない。そしてしかも一気に読み切ってしまうほどの力作ばかりである。
