その着眼点の見事さにまず圧倒されました。信長の生きた時代から何百年も隔てた現代の私たちでさえ感じる、彼のカリスマ性をこのような形で納得させられるとは・・・。アンドロギュヌスの持つ妖しい雰囲気にも引き込まれました。読み終えたあとはなかなか実世界には戻って来られないでしょう。

　信長記（俗）などに由来するとっくの昔に否定されているような俗説、
伝説を確信犯的に使い倒しています。
　信長と古代シリア由来の狂帝ヘリオガバルスを初めて結びつけたのは澁澤龍彦
ですが、登場人物の名前や設定、挿話の端々に澁澤へのオマージュが
ちりばめられています。
　妄想が暴走しているので、まじめな時代小説ファンなんかは受け付けない
かもしれませんが、しかし多分、作者には初めから狭義の“時代小説”
なんてつもりは微塵も無かったんじゃないでしょうか。
　これはファンタジーだ。そのつもりで読むことをお勧めします。また、
この本を読んでおもしろかったらアントナン・アルトーの『ヘリオガバルス・
または戴冠せるアナーキスト』も読むとおもしろいと思います。

　今までの信長像を払拭させる新たな見解で信長を語った物語。今までの信長についての謎が恐ろしいほどしっくりとくる解釈で解き明かされ、幻想的な新たな歴史観を作り出しています。遠く異国の地の統率者と信長を結び付けている点や、二十世紀半ばの視点から信長を見ている点がこれまでの信長小説にない、いい味を出していると思います。読み終わったあと、信長の偉大さを感じ、言葉に出せない信長の魅力をさらに大きくしてくれる本です。
