ボクはこの本を読んで、24歳のとき、バックパックをかついで
一人旅に出ました。
沢木さんのようにユーラシア大陸横断というわけでなく、
東南アジアを半年近くかけて下っていくというものでしたが。

旅先で知り合った人々はかなりの割合で『深夜特急』を読んで
いました。それほど影響力のある本です。

久しぶりに読み返してみましたが、やはり面白い！ 時を経ても
色あせないですね。旅に出たくてムズムズしてきました。

高校生のときに読んで以来の再読である。読んでいるうちに、まるで自分が東南アジアを旅したことがあって、それを何年ぶりかで思い出しているような錯覚にとらわれている自分に気がついた。それぐらいのめりこませてくれる旅行記。

アジア~ヨーロッパの旅の第2巻。

バンコクの寺があまりに極彩色でしっくりこない、というのはわかる。彼は北部のほうに足を伸ばしていないが、アユタヤの遺跡は「つはものどもが夢のあと」という感じが漂っていて切なく美しく、すごくよかったのにナ。あまりに香港と比べすぎなのではないだろうか？それだけ香港の魅力にはまってしまったということなのか・・。
