後の代表作「一夢庵風流記」「影武者徳川家康」などに引き継がれる、隆慶一郎の思想的バックボーンが明らかにされている。

デビュー作ながら、重厚な資料解析に土台を置いた、綿密な時代考証と伝奇作家としての想像力の豊穣さ…そして、男が男に、女が男に、男が女に「惚れる」とはどういうことかを痛烈に教えてくれる。

僕ら団塊ジュニア世代は、氏の作品には週刊少年ジャンプの原作として、間接的に触れ、原哲夫の描くいい男・いい女を媒介として吸収した。

もっと多くの作品に触れてみたかったと思う作家だ。

松永誠一郎の剣技も柳生の執念も凄いが、ただの色町だと思っていた吉原がこんなに素敵すぎる、偉大な価値を持っていたなんて。。。タイトルからもわかるとおり御免色里。今日の吉原とはおよそかけ離れた誇り高き存在である。一読の価値あり。続編のかくれ里苦界行もオススメです。

作者の名前は以前から知っていたが、お亡くなりになっていたとは知らなかった。
もっと以前にめぐり合えなかったことが残念でならない。
よしはらとは、かくいう場所だったのかという瞠目の一冊である。
