　上記の通り、魚へんの漢字の成立機序と魚自体の解説と食べ方の紹介から成る本。多くの人が寿司屋の湯呑みで見たむずかしい魚の漢字を細かく解説し、その魚を紹介し、最後においしく食べてしまおう、という好奇心と興味と味覚に応えてくれる楽しくも実用的な内容だ。

　こんな漢字が存在するのか、と驚かされるものも多く、魚を食材として見た場合の解説、調理法も詳細であり、著者の魚に対する関心と造詣の深さを感じた。さらには魚の生態、栄養、選び方にまで言及し、全体的によく調べ上げたな、と感心させられる。誰もが興味を持ちつつも未開拓だったテーマに着眼した点はすばらしい。

　難があるとすれば、延々と同じパターンが続くために初めから気合いを入れて読むと途中で食傷してしまうことであり、それは最初は美味しかった魚の味に飽きてしまうのと同類である。途中にコラムなどを挿入して変化をつければ平板で単調な印象を緩和できると思う。魚だけでなく、ガリやお茶や吸い物の味も箸休めとして貴重なのでは...

　ともあれ、この話をネタに誰かと寿司をつまみながら飲んでみたいな、と思わせる楽しい本である。

以前、友人と寿司屋で魚へんの漢字がのっている湯呑みを眺めて、つくりから漢字の読みを競いあったことがあった。
そこで、このタイトルを見て、これだ！と、つい衝動買いしてしまった一冊である。
これがなかなか面白いく、役に立つ。
基本的に漢字の本なのだが、その漢字の成り立ちや、料理の仕方、食べ頃（旬）まで載っている。

私事ですが、高校生と大学生の子供に、魚へんに春と書いて、サワラ。魚へんに冬と書いて、コノシロ。
では、魚へんに祭と書いて、何と読む？　と、聞いてみたり……、嫁に見せたら、一つ、一つ感心していた。
また、いつもは関心ももたなかった魚屋や、スーパーの魚コーナーに、一般的に有名な「鮪」さえも「マグロ」と気付いた。

もしかしたら、「マグロ」が「鮪」に変わる日も近いかもしれませんね。

寿司屋の茶碗に書かれた魚へんの文字の読み方、その由来、どのような魚でどのようにして食べるのかを書いたものです。
面白かったのは、同じ漢字でも日本と中国では別なものを指すことがある(例：鮭は中国ではフグを意味する)ことや、出世魚の一つである鯔(ボラ)の出世段階の名前から「おぼこい」「いなせ」「とどのつまり」といった言葉か生まれているということでした。
解説されたの種類は120にも及び、一気に読むと食傷気味になるので、電車やトイレの中で読むのがよいでしょう。
海水魚だけでなく、淡水魚や甲殻類など、どういう順番で並べているのかは最後までわからなかった。
