杉浦 日向子
1958(昭和33)年、東京生れ。文筆家。「通信室乃梅」で漫画家としてデビュー。以来、一貫して江戸風俗を題材にした作品を描き、’84年『合葬』で日本漫画家協会賞優秀賞、’88年『風流江戸雀』で文芸春秋漫画賞を受賞(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

本書を読み終わると、少なくとも一週間は江戸気分がぬけない。
それほど内容が楽しく、挿絵も可愛らしくユーモアがあり、思わず
ふふっと笑ってしまう。特に時代劇が大好きな人にはたまらない本
でしょう。

個人的に気に入っているのは「江戸の色男」。
第一位は「火消しの頭」。火炎を背に活躍する男はなるほど勇ましい。
第二位は「力士」。気は優しくて力持ちがトレードマークだ。
第三位は「与力」。村上弘明扮する正義感に満ち溢れた江戸八丁堀
のダンナは確かに今の警察よりも頼りになりそうだ。
・・・などと考えながら、すらすらと読めてしまいます。

江戸時代の料理レシピも必見で、練り味噌でいただく「林巻大根」、
酒のおつまみ「うに豆」など、思わずお腹が鳴ってしまいます。

歴史が苦手という方でも、難なく江戸時代にタイムスリップできる
はずです。

杉浦日向子は江戸を愛したひとであった。なんで江戸に生まれなかったか、と彼女のために悔やみたくなるレベルで江戸的な人物であった。
芸術系漫画雑誌のガロで漫画を描いていたのが最初のキャリアだと思うが、そして彼女の本業はあくまで漫画家であったと思っているが、ＮＨＫの番組「コメディーお江戸でござる」だかで毎回江戸についての講釈をしたりと漫画以外での活動は幅広く、この著もそのような活動の一端、内容としては江戸シロウト向けの江戸ガイド本といったところであり、江戸の風俗文章とイラストを交えて面白おかしく紹介したものである。
これが異常なまでにリアルな語り口調で語られ、彼女の書いたもの全部に言えるのだが現代にいながらにして、常時リアルタイムでの江戸の情報が流入してくることとなる。あれスピード感をすら伴う読書体験は他のどの江戸ガイド本から得る知識体験とも異なるものであり、トリップ感はサイケデリックですらあり、上質なネタを提供する杉浦日向子という人物の持つ独特な空気感覚が明らかに創作家としての一面を通して色濃く滲み出たひとつの芸術作品的意味としての真空保存パック的のそれである。
いくらベタ褒めしても足らないくらい杉浦日向子は漫画も文章もどれ読んでも面白い。急逝が惜しまれる。

軽快な”語り口”とイラストが楽しめる素敵な本です。
筆者がこの著書に限らず、江戸の人々が現代と比べても、いろいろな意味で「豊か」だったことを紹介しています。
転じて、平成の世も心持で「豊か」になれることがよく伝わってきます。
それは筆者が江戸文化に対する深い愛情によるものだと感じます。
筆者はまさに平成の世の「江戸文化の語りべ」だと思いました。
