　初鰹に大金を払う江戸っ子のばからしさ。天ぷらって最初は決して高級な食べ物じゃなくて屋台で売られていたスナックだったということ。正月の雑煮は将軍様の質素なものに合わせていたので、正月３日も食べていると白いご飯が恋しくてしょうがなくなるなど、おもしろいエピソードが盛りだくさん。食べ物から江戸の生活がかいま見られます。杉浦日向子さんの挿絵もとてもよい。気楽に読めてちょっと物知りになれます。

季節ごとの江戸の食べ物に関するエピソードがわかりやすく、またおかしく書かれていて楽しみました。蕎麦の話やようかん誕生の話など想像もしていなかった江戸と現代の感覚の違いに驚かされます。薄い本ですが損はしません。

江戸の食生活を季節感たっぷりに描いた本。当時の江戸っ子の嗜好、思考がよくわかる本です。ところどころに挿絵があります。日向子ワールドの食文化編。
