傑作選だけあって，乱歩らしい作品を収めた一冊です。乱歩が得意とする各ジャンルの作品をいいとこ取りしたような本なので，乱歩を読んだことがないという方は，まずこの本をご参考に。

「鏡地獄」が好きなら，次は「虫」がオススメだ，とか。
「人間椅子」なら，「人でなしの恋」がいい，とか。
「芋虫」がいいなら，「淫獣」も好きなんじゃ，とか。
いろいろ思ってしまいます。
ここから，乱歩道に入ってください。

僕のお気に入りは「鏡地獄」。

有名では有りますが、実際に氏の作品を読んだことのない人も意外に多いのではないでしょうか。そんな人に非常にオススメの一冊。「Ｄ坂の殺人事件」にややメリハリがないものの、収められた短編の数々はピリッとした名作ばかりで普段読書の習慣がない人にも勧められるものです。芸術的な怪奇短編集であり、妖しく、奇妙な世界は本当に心を惹きつけます。目次のタイトルを見て、たったの一編にも読む衝動を起こさないことがあるだろうか！？私も作品に接する以前は「推理小説か何かでしょ？」と思っていましたが、手に取るなり、まさにむさぼり読んでしまいました。もしかしたら、その後の読書のきっかけになってしまうような一冊かも。

乱歩は小学生以来だけど、未読の作品があったので購入。･･･案外覚えてなかった。

収録作『二銭銅貨』の最初の一文、大したものだ。ちょっと忘れられない文句だなぁ。
『芋虫』を推して言うわけじゃないが、探偵小説的なロジカルな部分よりも、表現や着想に如何にも"日本文学"らしさを感じるのは私だけではないはず。

これを読んだのは去年の夏。うだるような暑さの中、陽炎の中に乱歩を見た。
