ものすごい昔に読んだ本です。でも、いまだに思い出す衝撃的な本です。
　東大に合格する子供を作る。それだけの価値観しかもたない女性。
過度の期待をかけられた兄。
だめな奴だと思っていた弟が成長するにつれどんどん能力を発揮していく。
読んでいくうちにだんだんせつなくなってきます。

勉強だけという価値観しか持たしてもらえなかった兄が、友人、遊び、勉強以外に世界をもっている弟に勉強で負ける。
これほどつらいことはない。
　すべてが衝撃。これが昔の本とは思えないぐらい、今もかわらない。
よくわからないけど、学生のときに偶然でも出会えてよかった。

私も何十年も前に読んだ本です。
タイトルは思い出せなくても、英一郎と健次という名前が忘れがたくて、検索で「そうそう、こんな題名だった」と書籍に行き着きました。
勉強でなくてもスポーツでも同じです。
ひとつのものにしか価値観が見いだせない子供は不幸です。
そんな子供にしてしまうのは親の罪だと思います。
我が子には、幼い頃にたくさんの経験をして、人とのつながりを大切にして、自分の言葉と考えで人生を切り開ける人間になってほしいと切に願います。
子供をつくるのはまず家庭であって、学校のしつけではありませんし、親のあり方にとても左右されることは育児経験からわかります。
多くの人に読んでほしい一冊です。

生まれる前から、東大に入らせるために奮闘する妻としがないサラリーマン。その教育方針たるや、この家族はどんな道をたどるのか、気になって気になって、三時間で読んじゃいました。
結末はやっぱりか……という思いと、自分の子には強制させまい、という誓いを立てました。

それにしても、どうやったら賢くなるだの、これを食べたら頭の回転が云々……って城山さんはずいぶん研究されたのですねぇ。

そういううんちくは、現代でも通じています。未だにネットや育児書に掲載されていますよ。

三歳神話といわれる言葉だって、健在です。
おそらく、城山さんは、将来の子供たちの事が気がかりで、こういう作品を仕上げる事で警鐘を鳴らしていたのではないでしょうか。

まさに、今、起きてますから。

受験地獄を強いられる子供たちの結末は……読んでからのお楽しみです。
