映画、特に喜劇が大好きな人は是非読んで下さい。
昨今のいわゆる喜劇と称するＴＶバラエティ人に対する痛烈な皮肉も感じられますが、何よりも、抱腹絶倒のエピソードと絶妙な語り口に豊富な薀蓄が素晴らしい。

　三木のり平といえば、我々戦後団塊の世代では、東宝映画の社長シリーズでの、接待や宴会専用の常務や支店長役が多く、またはまり役だったように思います。ＴＶＣＭでは、某佃煮メーカーのＣＭですね。映画については、彼は別の考えを持っていたようで、意外でした。

　戦後、日本の喜劇の黄金時代を斜に構えながらも、しぶとく生き抜いた一代記です。兎に角、生半可な主役なんか食ってしまう個性的なバイプレイヤー三木のり平の面目躍如といったところが、随所に出てきて、映画ファンには!、たまらない一冊です。

本文によると、彼の奥様はこう言われている。
「一時の人気に押されて有名になるよりも、本当の 三枚目として実力のある役者になってほしいのです。」
私は、残念ながら彼の舞台は拝見した事が無い。
しかし、男はつらいよ（第19作）、
東宝の社長シリーズなどの映画で何度も彼の姿を目にしてきた。
どれをとっても、どこを見ても面白いのである。
この本を読んでその理由が理解できたように思う。
彼は喜劇の反対である悲劇、つまり悲哀をよく知っていたからである。
その上、教科書には出てこない昭和の一面がわかり、非常に興味深い。
聞き語りであるから非常に読みやすいし、
下手なエッセイを読むよりずっと得る事が多いように思う。
