　子供が最も興味を持つ身近な生き物が、昆虫である。その昆虫をイラストではなくカラー写真で載せているあたりが本書のすごいところである。もちろん国産全種を網羅することは不可能なので主な種となっているが、特筆すべきはバッタの仲間を生きた状態で撮影していることである。背景は除いてあるので非常に見やすくなっている。バッタ・キリギリスは死んだ標本では本来の色が失せてしまうので、このあたりの工夫は見逃せない。また同様にトンボも生きた状態で撮影されていると思われる。トンボもその特徴である色、特に目の色が死んで抜けてしまっては、種の同定は非常に困難になってしまう。このような昆虫図鑑がこれまであっただろうか。もちろん巻末には少数ではあるが外国産の昆虫や昆虫ではないがクモやムカデの仲間も載っており、昆虫の飼育方法もあるので重宝する。専門書ではなく「昆虫図鑑」と言うのなら間違いなく本書はお薦め。

4歳の子供の為に買いましたが、見ごたえもあり大満足です。ほとんどオールカラーで大変見やすかったです。子供だけでなく大人が見ても楽しいです。子供が扱うとカバーがボロボロになるので外しましたが外してもカバーと同じ絵柄が印刷してあるのも大変見やすいです。お薦めの1冊ですね。

保育園年長組の娘と見るために買いました。

載っている虫の種類が多く、自分の周りで出会う虫で、載っていない虫はないのではないでしょうか。
構成も「トンボ目」「コウチュウ目」等に分かれているので、見やすいですし、調べやすい構成になっています。

願わくば、載っている虫達がどんなものをどんなふうに食べているか等、載っている虫の生態の一部を捉えた写真があったらいいなぁと思いました。子供の頃にタガメが魚を捕らえている写真を見たときにはビックリしましたが、タガメを観察したいという動機になったという経験があるので。
今の風潮だと残酷だと思われてしまうのかなぁ…。

とはいえ、こんなに豊富に虫の種類が載っているのは、すごい魅力のある本です。この図鑑を持って、野に出て行きたいと思います。
