自由奔放に自分の好き勝手に生きてる親父と規則に則って生きる息子。正反対だがやがてお互いの長所と短所を認め合い寄り添う方向に落ち着く。
お互い不器用な部分は親子で一緒。
松本大洋どくとくな画風は、最初受け付けない人もいるかもしれないが、読んでれば慣れるから大丈夫。
読むと感じ入るところが多いから、だまされたと思って読んでみてください。

ただ、ストーリーを深く考えないように。台詞は、注意して。たまにいいこというからね。

　野球が好きで手にとった漫画、タイトルもいいし。おなかがちん切れちゃうかと思うほど笑った一巻、３ページほど読んだら笑ってるのに泣きながらだった二巻、なにかが変わってく予感に震えながらも、涙と感動と笑顔になちゃう三巻。

　自分ではうめられないこころのスキマを、この漫画の一コマ一コマにうめられていったのだと思う。出遭えてよかった。父、花男、そして茂雄、みんなさん、松本大洋さんに大感謝！

野球マンガの体裁をまとった人間ドラマである。小津安二郎の映画でも観ているかのような心安らかな作品の色調には驚かされる。コマの間（小説で言えば行間）で読ませるような独特のリズムは極めて詩的であり、果てしなきリリシズムを感じさせる。少ないセリフ数で漫画表現の可能性を押し広げた記念碑的傑作と言えるだろう。巨人軍入団を夢見るアマチュア天才打者・花男（野球以外はからきしダメな親父）、和服のよく似合う超美人の母親（離婚別居中）、何事にも醒めた聡明な息子・茂雄（親父と野球をバカにしている）、の三者が中心となって織りなされるホームドラマ（毛色は違うが『じゃりん子チエ』に似ている）にきっと読者は涙する。
