吉川英治氏の小説を読むのも初めてで、
尚且つ小説も滅多に読まないのですが、
あまりの面白さに、寝るのも忘れて読みふけってしまいました。

この小説を読んでいくに従って、
「宮本武蔵」という人物に尊敬の念を抱くようになり、
また「生きる力」と「強さ」を教えられた心地がします。

読む者を、いつのまにか虜にしてしまう、
吉川英治氏の珠玉の作品に、私は心を打たれてしまいました。

この気持ちは、読んだ方にはきっと分かっていただけると思います。
多くの方に、力を与える作品です。

普段小説と無縁な方にも、是非読んでいただきたいなと思いました。

漫画バガボンドの原作として有名だが、細かい設定で若干違いも見受けられる。
こちらを読んでしまっても漫画は漫画で楽しめるだろう。
むしろこちらを読み終えてから、バガボンドを見る事で、井上雄彦氏がどう肉付けしてくるのかといった点も楽しみになると思う。
もちろん原作として、読み終えてからの満足感　武蔵と同調して得る達成感。
吉川英治作品の醍醐味を存分に楽しめる作品だと思う。

市川某さん主演のＮＨＫ大河ドラマで脚光を浴びたことで、未読の世代にも再注目されたのではないでしょうか。
（２０年程前、役所広司さん主演でＮＨＫが大河ドラマを放送したが、個人的には役所武蔵の方に凄みと愛着を感じます）

日頃の練磨と自己節制の末に無双の精神と身体を体得した武蔵。

謀略・機智・突発かつ冷静な残忍さという悪の魅力を放つ小次郎。
清純可憐・哀切のすれ違いを反復する芯の強いヒロインお通。
そこに様々な魅力ある人物が絡み、長編を長編と感じさせないストーリー・テリングによって、吉川英治氏が創作した世界に引き込まれていく。

私が薦めるまでもなく、万人必読の書でしょう。

余談ですが、吉川英治氏が自作を朗読したカセットテープが一巻だけ存在するそうです。
それがこの『宮本武蔵』のエピローグ部分と聞きました。
作品の深みが凝縮されたエピローグをここに書く訳には行きませんが、多くの人に結びの数行を味わって欲しいと切に願います。

（菊池寛等の武蔵最強論に関する逸話を知っていれば、この結びの一文は、更に深みが増幅します）
