浦沢先生の最新作。

今回は戦後の１９４７年を舞台に国鉄総裁「下山定則」の轢死にまつわる、所謂「下山事件」を縦軸に日系２世の漫画家「ケビン・ヤマガタ」を語り部として紡がれる。

乗っけからの引き込みの数々の謎の散りばめかたは見事。
けれど、浦沢氏の作品はこの散りばめたいくつもの謎が終局に向かって集結してくる段階で
謎同士が「頭をぶつけ合ってごっつんこ、ごっつんこしてしまう」ことが多い！

つまり仲良く最終の頂まで駆け上る仲間として並列して存在し合えないのですね。
だから最後付近で交通渋滞を起こしてグダグダなまま終了・・・というケース多し！

この作品もスタートダッシュは見事だが、多くのファンが心配しているのはそこだろう。

村上春樹の「1Q84」の出版直後に書店に並びましたが、
「BILLYBAT」は、浦沢・長崎コンビによる「1Q49」なのでしょうか。

下山事件は迷宮入り（1964年７月に公訴時効成立）しており、
関係者のほとんどが鬼籍に入っています。
とはいえ、現在の日本のあり様に、
また、日米関係のあり様に大きく関係するとみられる下山事件について
どこまでエンタテイメントとして描ききることができるのだろうか。
興味は尽きません。

事件当時、他殺説を強く主張していた朝日新聞に
新刊広告が大きく掲載されましたが、
この点について、なにかしらの狙いはあるのでしょうか。
興味は尽きません。

下山事件は非常に複雑です。
よもや、作者たちは「BILLYBAT」で、
この事件の真相を明らかにしようとしているわけではないでしょうが、
あえて、この事件を登場させた狙いは何なのか。
どこに読者たちを連れて行こうとしているのか。
せっかくですから、この作品を楽しみましょう。

「BILLYBAT」にダマされないためには、
いや、これから、うまくダマされようと覚悟をお決めになったのなら、
以下の５冊をお読みになったらいかがでしょう。

「日本の黒い霧」松本清張、文春文庫。
「謀殺 下山事件」矢田 喜美雄、祥伝社文庫。
「葬られた夏―追跡・下山事件」諸永裕司、朝日文庫。
「下山事件」森達也　新潮文庫。
「下山事件―最後の証言」柴田哲孝、祥伝社文庫。

すべて文庫化されています。
最も手っ取り早く、事件の全体像を把握できるのは、
「日本の黒い霧」収録の一章「下山国鉄総裁謀殺論」でありしょう。
さらに、事件に興味を持たれたら、
他の４冊を手に取ることをおすすめしたい。

目茶目茶おもしろい！
浦澤作品独特の物語への引きずり込まれ方にゾクゾクした。

けれど、嫌な予感。

そう、20世紀少年の1〜5巻くらいにとても似た感覚である。

この人ストーリーでいう起承転結の起承くらいまでは本当に稀代の天才である。

しかし、転くらいから1回転でいいものを2回転、3回転とやりすぎる帰来があり、

そうこうしているうちに、出口を見失ってしまい結がなんだか読者にとってはどうでもよくなってきてしまう。

あの〜、今のうちからメインストーリーだけ最後まで決めて書き進めるのはダメですかね？
と、先行きが不安になりつつも、とりあえずは引きずりこまれた第1巻でした。
