珠玉。
人々が遭遇する怪異などの原因が、通常の人の目には見えない「蟲」というものにあり、「蟲師」はそれを飯のタネにしている。蟲師と蟲の関係にしても、活かしたり殺したりと、そのかかわり方もさまざま。
設定とストーリーがしっかりと噛み合っており、物語にはそれぞれ結末が用意されていて、上っ面の雰囲気で流して終わりといった話ではない。

この作品から受ける印象の多くは、主人公の蟲師ギンコのシニカルささえ合わせ持つ人生観を根底としていて、決して表街道を生きることができない人達の、ある意味さばけた空虚さが上手い。
絵柄は墨絵のような味わいがあって、この手の世界を描くためにあるかのようなハマり具合で、頭一つ飛び抜けている感がある。まさに筆画きかと思わせるような画面もあり、作者の独特なセンスが作品の隅々にまで溢れている。

広がりよりも深みを持った、この物語りの放つ「てざわり」は、恐らく日本人にしか理解できないんじゃないだろうか。
いわゆる「ナウシカ」のようにワールドワイドなものではなく、とてつもなく曖昧な、むしろ今の日本が忘れようとしている「ほのぐらい部分」に、さらに「ほのかな光」を当てているような作品。
遠野物語などの世界を理解できる人ならうってつけ。

アニメ化そのものはめでたいことだが、紙という媒体の力を遺憾なく引き出せる作品であるからこそ、作者にはこれからも、「ほのぐらい光」という匙加減を忘れないでいて欲しい。

私がこのシリーズで好きなのは、空気感です。
温度や、手触り、自然の壮大さや、そこに溶け込む蟲の存在。
夜の暗さや、昼の明るさ。風の匂い、といったものも。
雪国を描いても暖かさを感じます。雪の重さや質、そこに暮らす人々の命が丁寧に描写されているからではないでしょうか。
ちゃんとこの作品の中の世界がそこに存在しているのを感じさせてくれる、そういうところが大好きです。

確かに、少し今までとは作風が変わるかもしれません。
それをどう思うかは個人の自由なので、全巻通しで読んでみることをお勧めします。
私はどれも、大好きです。

私は、アニメを観てから蟲師を知ったのですが、そんな私が蟲師を好きになったのは、グラフィックの美しさと、そこに溶け込む人々と蟲との生き方に心を打たれたからです。
そして、今回の第６巻を買って思う事は、作者は自然の描写が非常に上手いということです。
雪の絵、海の絵、そして森の絵、自然を愛している人だからこそ、こんなにも良い絵がかけるのだと思います。

「天辺の糸」「囀る貝」「夜を撫でる手」「雪の下」「野末の宴」
という全５話が収録されていて、今回は悲しい話が多いのですが、どれも人と自然について考えさせられる話でした。

蟲は不確かな存在です。
だからこそとても身近であるのだと思います。
私にとって蟲師は非常に大好きな作品です。
お話や絵を観ているととても癒されます。
そして、何より主人公ギンコの人をひきつける魅力が良いですね。
