著者略歴 (「BOOK著者紹介情報」より)

マイヨール,ジャック
1927年上海に生まれる。1966年、39歳のとき、水深60メートルのフリーダイビング(素潜り)に成功。以後、閉息潜水の第一人者的存在になる。映画「グラン・ブルー」のモデルとしても知られている。2001年12月23日、エルバ島の自宅で自殺をしているのが発見された

関 邦博
1944年香川県生まれ。1967年神奈川大学卒業、1972年フランス、エックス・マルセイユ大学理学部卒業、1976年同大学院修了、理学博士(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

映画「ディープ・ブルー」は見ていて、映像がないとどうなと思ったのですが、マイヨールの心情や感覚が、映画よりずっとたくさん描写されていて非常に心に感じるものがありました。
あとがきでマイヨールの晩年のことを知ることができたのも、内容は悲しいものでしたが、よかったです。

イルカに対しての想い、イルカとのつながり、などいろんな不思議な事がありステキな話もたくさんあるのですが、かなりマニアックな専門的なページもあり、難しすぎてちょっと飽きてしまう部分もありました。
