特攻といえばゼロ戦による体当たりと思いがちだが
「剣」「橘花」「桜花」「震洋」「伏龍」そして「回天」と
よくもこれだけ考え出したなと驚くような特攻兵器があった。

魚雷に操縦席を取り付けただけの”人間魚雷”回天と
青春を散らしていった若者達を描くドラマだが、
さすが横山秀夫、最後まで飽きずに読ませてくれる。

どうしてもこの手の物語は
気持ちが暗くなって読み進めるのが辛くなってくるものだが
一流の作家にかかるとこうなるのか、と感心。

主人公が「回天を後世に伝えたい」というセリフがあるが
著者はそれを見事に果たしたといえるだろう。

ひたすら戦争批判を終始わめき散らすようなことはせず、
タイムスリップなど奇抜な設定の人物を登場させるようなこともせず。
この作品の中で著者は、
“戦争”と“平和”　“夢”と“現実”を、その狭間で悩み苦しむ主人公達を通して
丁寧に且つ冷静に描いている。
しかし、冷静だといってもストーリー性に欠けることなく、そこに著者の力量が窺える。
私は、特攻兵やその周りの人たちの気持ちや年齢を考えると
そのあまりにも若すぎる登場人物達の苦しみに涙が止まらなかった。
是非、手にとって時間のあるときにじっくりと一気に読んでほしい。
著者の、若者達を包み込むような“想い”を感じられると思います。

A Kid's Review
最初、映画化してるけどどんな話なのかなーっと思い、買ったのですが・・・・ものすごく泣けます！！。この人達のおかげで、今のような暮らし等ができていると思うと感謝なのですがこの様な人達に生きていてほしいと思わせられます。すごく感動的で良い本なので読んで頂きたいです。
