森作品の中で、最も過小評価されている作品だと思う。冒頭と章題で引用されているエルンスト「百頭女」の切れ味と言い、全体の文学的雰囲気と言い、最高なのに。殊に最後の一行、ここで読者は体が震えるほどの衝撃に襲われる。だが、これが分からない人が多いらしい。何故だろうか？森氏の思考に沿って感覚的な読み方をすれば、絶対に分かるはずである。是非読んでみてほしい。最高だから。

乙女文楽は人形を見せる、いや人を見せているんだ、というところは面白い。犯行に使われているトリック自体はそう難しいものではないけれど、作品中にそのトリックを取り入れる意味は深い。

しかし、最後の一行は、個人的には蛇足だと思っている。たしかにあれは「？」を誘う。けれど「！」とならない。なぜなら、その結末を予感させるものが文中にないからである。

そもそも、この話の中で悪魔や神はテーマとして浮いている感がある。人形使いの家に齎された狂気というものを悪魔や神を持ち出して形容しているようだが、それではヒトガタとしての人形の神秘性と合致しないような気がする。しかも、その真相自体もありきたりで弱いと思う。

モナリザの真相こそ森氏らしいが、殺人事件の真相との接点らしい接点がなく（というか基本は別件）、釈然とせずに終わる。一挙に押し寄せるカタルシスというものはなく、一つ一つがそれなりに終わる印象を、どうしても受けてしまう。残念である。

1999年リリース。Vシリーズ第2作（●＾o＾●）。
本作のシーチュエーションはおそらくどこかにモデルがあるのだろう。久保裕紀子氏への謝辞がそれを感じさせる。その素敵な空間のなかでかの面々が大暴れする。そしてVシリーズの主人公はS&Mシリーズよりずーっとワルである事を認識できる。（●＾o＾●）そしてどんどん『理系』ではなくて詩的素敵になっていく。

各標題はマックス・エルンストの『百頭女』の中から取られている。詩的に広がるイマジネーションが次々と広がって花が咲いていくような小説手法はこの作品あたりでは、まるでジョン・ロードのキーボードのように（●＾o＾●）絶好調だ。この話法構築術に森ワールドの一番の魅力を感じる。

なんとなく主人公たちの『名前』のユニークさに始まって、文字の持つチカラを操って書いているような作品である。お決まりの『密室』も単なる飾りであって、それを描くレトリックに命があるのだ。

そしてその引き込まれる森ワールドのワナに何度もはまりたくなるのである。（●＾o＾●）
