私がクレーを意識したのは「忘れっぽい天使」によってだった。
二十年近く前、綺麗なカードはないかな？なんて、よくある回転式のカード陳列用スタンドに鎮座ましましたのです。

一目惚れでした。買い求めてしばらく机上に飾っていたりしたのです。そして、たしか結婚する友人へのお便りに使いました。＜祈る＞という題の詩のようなものを書いて。

さほど雄弁な魅力的な天使なのです。だから谷川氏の『クレーの絵本』も見つけてすかさず買いました。

そして今度はたくさんの天使たち。氏のあとがきから抜粋します

「クレーの天使たちはギリシャの神々のように人間的だ。かれらは私たちと同じように苦しみ、無邪気に喜び、涙にくれ、悩んでいる。クレーの天使たちのほとんどは成功者ではなく失敗者のように見える」

これだ…。私が心惹かれたのは、このせいだった。たしかに。

どうかすると、こどもの落書きにもみえる素朴な天使の表情。そして、それを読み取ろうと生まれたことば。

やわらかい　ひらがなが
わたのように　ならんで
わたしの　ないまぜの　くるしさや
とうといものへの　あこがれや
とりかえせない　くいが
ふうわりと　なぜられ　ときほぐされ
しらずに　なみだこぼれ

ああ　こんなに　ここちよい

クリスマスには、この美しさをわかってくれる大好きな誰かに贈りたくなるような、浜辺で見つけた桜貝みたいな一冊です。

泣いている天使
忘れっぽい天使
用心深い天使

絵画に解説は要らないと思っていたけれど
クレーのシンプルな線画に
谷川俊太郎の　ひらがなの詩が添えられることで
天使を近くに感じられる　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　

なまめかしい天使や　
まだ醜い天使を
クレーは見たのだとおもう

クレーの天使の絵が多く収録されていたので興味と期待を持った。
逆に、集約されているのが少しこわい気もした。
かわいらしい面立ちから、真剣さが伝わってくる。

前作と言える『クレーの絵本』に比べると、
この本はテーマが偏っているが、その分、濃厚だ。
