「パラレルワールド」とある通り、「麻由子」が親友の恋人である章、主人公の恋人である章、二つの世界から構成される作品。 ミステリー小説としても面白いが、切ない恋愛小説でもあると思う。 友人の恋人を好きになったとき、友人を選ぶのか、恋人を選ぶのか。それとも、第三の選択をするのか。

主人公も、親友も、「麻由子」も、それぞれ思い悩み、苦しみ、その辛さがよく判る。 そして、何よりも、山手線を利用したことのある人なら、誰もが思い当たるであろう序章の「電車が並んで走るシーン」は、秀逸だ。 このシーンがなかったなら、僕は、この小説の結末に納得できなかっただろうし、この小説を好きになることはなかっただろうと思う。

大好きな作家である東野圭吾先生の作品の中でもお気に入りの一つです。

既にタイトルからして只ならぬ感じを受けたのですが、内容も素晴らしい

です。これほど気持の良い違和感を感じた小説は初めてです。

このストーリーは過去と現在という時間軸を平行（パラレル）に進めてい

くのですが、これが非常に面白い。二つの全く別のようなストーリーが繋

がったときの瞬間はあまりの感動に震えました。

東野圭吾先生の作品「秘密」「変身」「レイクサイド」「手紙」などは映

画化されていますが、個人的にはこの作品も映画化して欲しいです。是非。

ps.主人公の親友、三輪智彦のキャスティングが重要ですね♪

私は読書は通勤途中に読んでいるのですが、この本は、読み始めて止まらなくなってしまい、仕事中にちょっと抜けて読んだり、帰宅してからも読みつづけて結局1日で読んでしまいました。そのくらい魅力あふれる小説でした。
小説のテーマは"記憶"。それに、"愛をとるか友情をとるか"という永遠のテーマみたいなものも複雑に絡み合っています。
ある記憶は、一人称の"俺"が語っているのに対し、もうひとつの記憶は３人称の"彼"を使用しているので読者は混乱せずに読むことができます。
わたしは読み進めながら、「きっと裏切りとかの悲しい結末なんだろうな」と思ったのですが、思ったよりもさわやかな結末で読後感もとってもよかった。
著者は、理工系ご出身ということで、記憶の概念が科学的に説明されていて説得力もあります。
読みごたえのある作品です。
