青春時代のきらめきが表現された小説だと思いました。
読み進むうちに、主人公が偏愛するマンドリンという楽器の、
細やかで、でも孤独な音色が聴こえてくるようでした。

主人公が語る、
人間関係におけるアフォリズムめいた箇所も
独特です。

男女関係の描き方が「かるい」ことで、
逆に、男女間の「真実」に届いている気がします。
おすすめします。

これまでのレビュワーはみんな「性格が悪い」と評しているけれど、目標の低い仲良し音楽サークルの中で一人技術に走りつつ人一倍努力して練習をするけれど、周りを圧倒するだけの才能にも恵まれず、浮いてしまう女の子という設定は、僕には悲しいほどリアルだった。そうした女の子を主人公にすえ、その気持ちによりそいつつも、描く視点は空に浮いた、いわゆる「神の視点」からであり、主人公の狭い世界も客観的に突き放す。その語りの視点と主人公自身の視点との混ざり具合が自虐的に見え、新鮮だった。

先日の日経新聞の書評で「瑞々しい文体」と褒めていたが、私にはそう思えない。　 普通の男女大学生の音楽サークルにおける日常を描写しているだけ。　読み終わって何も残らない。　会話をすべて改行して頁数を倍増しても１５０頁に満たない薄っぺらな本に４桁のお金を喜んで払う読者が一体どれくらいいるのか？　著者には音楽サークルのような狭い世界ではなくもっと広い世界に出て行って欲しい。　もしかしたら著者の長い終わりが始まっているのではと思ってしまう。
