元禄時代に江戸に住む若い男女４人の痛快な小説です。
それぞれが表稼業を持っているが（リーダー格の蔵秀は定斎売り・辰次郎は絵草子作家・宗佑は飾り行灯師・雅乃は絵師師作家）皆で一致団結して江戸の厄介事、よろずを引き受けている。
人と人との駆け引きや謎解き要素が上手く散りばめられていて一気に読ませてくれます。

特に雅乃が見合いするあたりから一気にヒートアップ。渡世人の猪之吉の言動がとっても影響力が多くて物語を盛り上げてます。

あと、実在の紀伊国屋文左衛門や柳沢吉保が登場、物語をより一層リアルなものにしているが２人とも好人物として描かれている点には驚かされるでしょう。

ただ、登場人物それぞれの個性があんまり発揮されてなかったような気がする。
具体的に言??ば、もう少し蔵秀と雅乃の恋愛模様を書いていただけたらもっと面白かったように思う。あと通貨などの単位が当時の単位なんで少しわずらわしかったです。

この小説に時代小説特有の“人情”を求めたら少し拍子抜けするかもしれませんが、とっても爽やかな作品です。続編がありそうな気もします。

いつの時代でも協力することと工夫することの大切さを教えてくれた作品です。同時にいつの時代でもこんな人っているよなあと思い知らされた作品でもあります。

山本一力氏の小説を始めて読んで、時代小説の魅力にハマッタ。本作品も
同様に山本氏の描く魅力ある人物描写、ストーリーを一気に読んでしまった。
また、早く新作を読みたい思う。
