「全力だ！」
村上龍のエネルギー溢れた作品を読むと、そんな気分になる。
途方もなく広がる想像力と、ゴーギャンの絵が更に激しくなったような、
原色の生物の息吹と色と匂いが立ち上り、句読点すらもどかしいように
疾走する文体は洗練という形とは遠い。
無論、それが村上龍の最大の武器である彼の生理であり、
力強い才能のコアだと思う。

１０年以上前、初めて「コインロッカーベイビーズ」を読んだとき、
僕は細胞が叫びだすような興奮を感じた。
コインロッカーへの置き去りの子供、崩壊した東京、破滅へと向かう
ストーリー。
現実化すると単なる破滅的なテロリズムだろう。
でも、閉塞から抜け出せない今の日本に少しでも元気を出すためならば、

この飛び切り危険でパワフルな虚構に引き込まれてもいいと思う。
元気を出すためも、鬼才村上龍が若干３０歳で描いた本作が多くの
人に読まれることを望みたい。

衝撃的な作品でした。
解りやすいエンターテイメントを好んで読んでいた僕には、最初の100ページを読むのに三日費やすほど体力の要る小説で、上巻はほとんど意地で読みきりました。ただ、下巻に差し掛かってからはどういうことか休まず一気に読まされました。マシンガンさながらのディティールの乱射が、この一貫した危うい感じのリアリティーとなっているのか、受け入れてみるとどんどん読み進められました。(疲れることには変わりありませんが)
80年代から物語はスタートしていますが設定はどこか近未来的にも写り、「破壊と自閉」のイメージは僕の想像力の限界を超えたところに刷り込まれ、大袈裟かもしれませんが、ラストでは軽く眩暈がするような感覚でした。貴重な読書でした。

最初の一行目から目を疑った。

鮮烈な書き出しと、
行変更が少ないのにサラサラと読みやすい文。
すべての情景が克明に浮かんでくる
村上龍はそんな書き方をする人なのだと思った。


コインロッカーに捨てられていた赤子・キクとハシ。
不安定な幼年期を催眠術治療を経て
無事双子として里子に出される前半部分。
そして、
行方不明になったハシを探しにキクが上京し、
再会し、東京を生きていく後半部分。

キクが出会うアネモネという少女の透明さが印象的。
鰐を飼っている美少女が住む擬似亜熱帯の空気は、きっと腐りかけた果物みたいに甘く芳しいことだろう。


ヘビーなのにさらっと読める本。
東京の腐敗した空気が懐かしくなります。
