　2002年に原書房から出た単行本の文庫化。加筆修正がなされている。
　長編ミステリ。
　面白いけれど、ぎこちない。そんな印象の本であった。ずっと昔からプロットを考えていて、やっと作品化することに成功したというのだが、確かに「若さ」と「未成熟」を感じる部分と、熟練したミステリ作家としての「まとめ方のうまさ」とが混じり合っているようだ。
　前者はすなわち、名探偵への憧れということである。名探偵になりたい。そんな気持ちが滲み出ている。
　しかし、それをミステリ作家としての習性から、どんでん返しとか意外性に落としこんでしまったところが、不協和の原因となっているのではないか。
　なんだか煮え切らない作品であった。

　『少年の夢は犯罪者になることだった。』
　そんな一文で、ズンと霧舎巧の世界に引き込まれてしまう作品。視点は第3者視点でありながら、探偵役がトン、トンと移り変わっていったり、あいかわらずちょっとラブコメテイストが含まれていたり、とにかく霧舎巧ファンにはたまらない作品です。

　霧舎巧の小説を読んだことのない方には、他の作品をウチならお薦めしますが、「開かずの扉研究会」シリーズをお読みの方には是非という作品。

奇をてらった仕掛けはありません．
超人が登場するということもありません．
驚くような大きなどんでん返しもありません．
事件のヒントはすべて目の前のページの中にあります．

ツッコミどころがないかと言われればアレですが，
それでも上に書いたように変なトリックなどもなく概ねスッキリ．
あえて空欄になっている登場人物一覧のページも，
読み終えたあとならなるほどと思わせられるはずです．

少し入るロマンスもアクセントになっていますし，
物語の鍵にもなっていてなかなかよいと思います．
