　この本は京極夏彦の6冊目の妖怪シリーズです。

　昭和28年春、一人の小説家に奇妙な事件の取材が依頼された。 それは戦前、伊豆山中に確かに存在した1つの集落が住人ごと、 忽然と消えうせているという事件だった。小説家は始め、 戦争による記録の消滅だと考えていた。しかしその村に食べると寿命を

延ばすことができる「くんほう様」が守られていたという話に 興味を持ち、取材をはじめる。調べれば調べるほどに奇妙な点が増え、 小さな集落の消滅が、やがて多くの人々を謎に巻き込み、思わぬ方向へと 事件は発展していく。 　私は読んでいる途中、あまりの登場人物の多さに驚き、戸惑いました。

登場人物達はみんな血眼になって消滅したはずの集落を手に入れようと 画策していますが、事件の全容が全く見えてこないのです。私は早く全容が 知りたくて必死に頁をめくっていくと最後には思いもかけない結果が…。下巻宴の始末までしっかり楽しめます。 長編が読みたい方におすすめです。

じわじわじわじわ責められて「一体何だ！早く来い京極堂！」と叫びながら結局次巻に持ち越し、これでは蛇の生殺しだと身悶えた。
関口しかり、とにかく今回は全員が踊らされる。私も一緒になって踊るぞ、といいたいくらいだ。
でも、これで確信した。百鬼園先生の名前が関口の口から出た以上、正体が明確にわかる。なんでこの人はこんな読者を試すんだ？おもしろいか？おもしろそうだが。
ストーリーとは別な所で妙な小細工が施されている。それがまた私達が京極っは面白い、と公言する由縁でもあるのだが。
あぁもう！じれったい！色んなところでじれったい。
次巻は次巻で色々大変なことになっているのだが、土台の固め方が尋常ではない。固い。
我慢して長い文章を読んでいると色々楽しいのだ。是非ともご賞味くだされ。
でもこの本だけではじれったいだけなので、星４つ。

これは是非とも先入観を持たずに読んでいただきたいです。

しかし、ちょっと書いてしまいますと、本書はいわゆる上巻にあたるのですが、最初は短編集のようです。どのお話も背景の事情は一連のもののようですが、表面は繋がっていないように見えるからです。一体どうなってるのかどういう話しなのか、叫び出したい気持ちになります。

もうちょっと詳しく書きますと、あなたは自分の記憶に自信がありますか？ 人は特に意識していなくとも、記憶にべったりと依存して生きています。記録を読んだり見たりする以上に記憶に頼っているのです。当然といえば当然ですよね。

さあ、読んで下さい。
