カードとりのコツ――何をやるかによっても、また関心のありかたによってもカードに記入する方法はちがってくるだろうが、最大公約数として、見出し・本文・出所はどういう場合にも欠かせないものだ。見出しは、型把握の方法を適用すればよい。要するに、カードに書かれた内容が一目でわかるようなアダ名をつければよいわけである。ふつう、簡潔な見出しをつける場合、われわれは漢語をつかって名詞や名詞どめの句を使いやすいが、あとで使うときのことを考えると動詞を使って短い文にしておいた方が能率があがるものである。カードの本文は、かならず逆ピラミッド型にしなければならない。必要なカードを探すとき、見出しと本文の上の方だけ見て探すのが能率的なのである。――本書から

1922年、中国南京に生まれる。東京大学文学部卒業。江戸文学専攻。成城大学、ケンブリッジ大学、ハーバード大学などを経て、現在、創価女子短期大学副学長。現代新書にこのほか、『日本人の論理構造』、『続考える技術・書く技術』がある。

仕事で文章を書く人に対して、書くことを思いついたり頭の中で整理する為の技術と、より良く書く為の技術を示した本です。著者は江戸文学の教授なので、主に文系の学術研究者が論文を書く場合のコツが述べられているのですが、一般的なビジネス文書などにも応用できる点はたくさんあります。但し、即効性のあるようなアドバイスはあまり多くなく、著者自身がどうしたら良い発想ができ、良い文章を書くことができるかを長年試行錯誤してきた様子を示すエッセーのような印象です。結局は「あなたも自分で悩んで、自分なりにより良い方法を見つけなさい」というのが中心的なメッセージだと私は捉えました。

1973年に書かれた本なのでやや古い記述はやむをえないところです。著者が文章を書く際の筆記用具にこだわり、シャープペンシルに対して強い抵抗感を示すあたりは、パソコンでの文章作成が常識化した時代に読むと微笑ましく感じます。松本清張を契機に日本語の文章が変質しつつあるとの指摘なども興味深いです。

文章を書くための情報収集の仕方・情報の整理の仕方・構成の仕方等の文章を書く上で必要となる作業が解説されている。その上、分かりやすく説得力がある文章に高める方法などにも言及されている。

この本は、当然、著者が解説する方法で書かれているであろう。だとするなら、この本が分かりやすいか否かが著者の主張が正しいか否かを判断する材料の一つとなるだろう。そして、実際私には分かりやすかった。

30年以上前に書かれた本にもかかわらず、これだけ違和感無く読めるということは著者の試みは成功したといってよいであろう。

枯れた（成熟しきった）発想法を用いて考える。書く。
長々と書いているが、固くならずに読めば楽しく読めることは
確実の良書。必要な部分に入る挿し絵、写真、そして具体的な使用例、
事例。
これらが上手く混ざっていて読んでいても飽きない。
「発想」とか無縁の人にも読んで貰いたい一冊
