1959年大阪生まれ。京都大学経済学部卒。生命保険会社に勤務後、作家に。1996年「ISOLA」が日本ホラー小説大賞長編賞佳作となり、『十三番目の人格―ISOLA』と改題して角川ホラー文庫より刊行される。翌年、『黒い家』で第4回日本ホラー小説大賞を受賞、100万部を超えるベストセラーになり、日本と韓国で映画化される。2005年『硝子のハンマー』で日本推理作家協会賞を受賞(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

前作にあたる「硝子のハンマー」の出来映えについては賛否両論があるようですが、個人的にはお気に入り作品だったため、シリーズとして続編が出てくれることを希望していました。
念願かなってすごくうれしいです。

今回は短編集なので、前作ほど登場人物の内面がじっくり書き込まれていない点と、エピソード＆事件の真相に、微妙な肩すかし感が否めませんが、主人公達のちょっと変な掛け合いは健在で楽しく読めました。

貴志さん独特の、あのクセになる後味の悪さがほとんどないため、万人受けかなと思います。ファンには物足りない気もしますが。
また長編で1冊じっくり読みたい…という希望を込めて星4つです。(内容的には3.5くらいかなあ…)

ミステリーの醍醐味は謎解きとそれを暴く探偵役であろうか。

本作の主人公は女性弁護士と防犯ショップの店長と
あまり釣り合いそうも無い二人をおいている。

その二人が解き明かすのは「密室」。

重厚感こそないのだが、
手軽に楽しめる作品に仕上がっている。

短編集です。やはり同氏のほかの長編作に比べると格段に面白さが減少しています。トリックには面白い物もありましたが、やはり１つ１つの話があっさりしているし、主人公たち以外の登場人物に感情移入できる程のボリュームがないので、没頭できない、と言うか。つまらなくはないけど、「天使の囀り」や「新世界より」の様な圧倒的な面白さは感じられなかった。
